Frequently Asked Questions
Consent Labs is a national youth-led not-for-profit organisation that delivers Consent and Respectful Relationships programs. Our workshops are designed to be preventative and scenario-based, equipping young people, their families, and educators with the confidence to navigate consent in today’s world.
Our workshops are designed for standard classroom sizes, typically ranging from 20 to 40 students. We also offer larger lecture-style sessions for up to 150 students when needed.
Each session runs for approximately 60 minutes. However, the more time we have, the more activities and discussions we can include to deepen learning! Ideally, we are building on students’ knowledge across the year and running either multi-week or multi-semester programs.
Our sessions are led by trained Consent Labs facilitators—young people themselves (usually aged 20-25) who are experts in consent education and have extensive facilitation experience. They hold valid Working With Children Checks (WWCC), are trained in trauma-informed best practices, and are mandatory reporters.
We believe it’s important for young people to learn how to navigate safe and healthy relationships together, so our sessions are typically co-ed. However, in some cases, we may separate groups to create a more comfortable environment or address specific topics in greater depth.
Our sessions follow evidence-based best practices for consent education, using a strengths-based approach with inclusive, non-judgmental language. We provide regular content warnings for sensitive topics and encourage participants to step out if needed.
When discussing sexual violence, we use a small workshop-style format to ensure student wellbeing. We also recommend having wellbeing staff available for additional support.
Our sessions cover everything from the fundamentals of consent—understanding boundaries, practicing consent language, and Australian consent laws—to complex real-world scenarios, including consent in online spaces and when alcohol or drugs are involved.
We also address sexual violence prevention, equipping students with the tools to recognise and respond to violence, understand different trauma responses, and act as active bystanders or access support.
Beyond that, our programs take a preventative approach by tackling the root causes of gender-based violence. We explore topics like gender roles, societal pressures, and the diverse experiences of gender and sexuality to foster awareness and lasting cultural change.
Absolutely! There’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to these conversations. Consent Labs tailors each session to suit the age, knowledge level, experiences, and unique needs of participants. We also consider vulnerability factors, cultural, social, and religious backgrounds, as well as any specific issues that need deeper exploration. Our goal is to ensure the content is relevant, impactful, and meaningful for your community.
Consent Labs is more than just a program provider—we’re advocates and thought leaders in the field of consent education. We actively collaborate with government, social services, researchers, and education providers to ensure our programs reflect the latest best practices and research.
What truly sets us apart is our tailored approach. We customise both the content and delivery style to ensure every session is 100% relevant and impactful for your students, staff, or community. These are THE most important conversations any young person will have, it’s important to get them right!
